Peganum Harmala Can this plant grow in BC areas?
Curious to know can one grow this plant in Vancouver? Its a perennial plant
Thanks
Yes, but I don't recommend, it's an invasive specie in Southwestern and USA West Coast, from Texas to Washington State. Peganum harmala was first planted in the United States in 1928 in the state of New Mexico by a farmer wanting to manufacture the dye "Turkish Red" from its seeds. Since then it has spread invasively to Arizona, California, Montana, Nevada, Oregon, Texas and Washington."Because it is so drought tolerant, African rue can displace the native saltbushes and grasses growing in the salt-desert shrub lands of the Western U.S.
Hardiness:
USDA Zone 5b: to -26.1 °C (-15 °F) to USDA Zone 8a: to -12.2 °C (10 °F)
